President Barack Obama nominated Beryl Alaine Howell to the United States District Court for the District of Columbia on July 14, 2010, to the seat vacated by Judge Paul L. Friedman. The Federal Judicial Center records the nomination, the December 22, 2010, Senate confirmation, and a commission issued December 27, 2010.

Congress.gov lists the nomination as PN1967, 111th Congress. The Congressional Record for December 22, 2010, records the confirmation: “BERYL ALAINE HOWELL, OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, TO BE UNITED STATES DISTRICT JUDGE FOR THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA.” It was a voice vote, not a numbered roll-call. A confirmation is a recorded act. It is not a finding about later orders.

The District of Columbia court biography states she was appointed to the district court on December 27, 2010. That is the same person as the FJC entry for Howell, Beryl Alaine.
